The Bush Administration is sticking to its policy that only Senate-confirmed officials can be forced into the televised dog-and-pony hearings that Congress loves. White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, Political Advisor Karl Rove, and Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge have all been "protected" from such spectacles. The White House has sent lower-level officials to give closed-door briefings 88 times, but few Congressmen show up as there are no TV cameras.--Stephen V Cole
