How Well Do You Know Winston?

Kiernan Whitworth, who’s been buying books for the Imperial War Museums collection for nearly two decades, is the author of The Ultimate World War II Quiz Book. He has done a terrific job in putting together this amusing, and often quite informative book about Winston Churchill.

The more than 700 questions are grouped into ten “chapters”, each covering a particular period in the man’s life and career. Each chapter, in turn, is divided into a number of “quizzes”, with a varying number of questions up to about two dozen in some cases. Some questions are labeled as to level of difficulty. Some of the questions are genuine trivia (“What volcano did Churchill see erupt . . .?”), but many offer insights into the man’s personality or his thinking, revealing, for example, how the disastrous outcome of the Gallipoli operation led to some creative thinking on the man’s part which influenced his later actions.

The Churchill Quiz Book will prove an amusing, and informative, gift for anyone interested in Churchill or W.W. II, whether academic or amateur.
