ARABIAN GULF (Nov. 11, 2011) An F/A-18+ Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 87 releases flares while flying the missing man formation in remembrance of Capt. Tushar Tembe, commanding officer of USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). Tembe died Nov. 8 and previously served as commanding officer of VFA-87. VFA-87 is part of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility on its first operational deployment conducting maritime security operations and support missions as part of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.
