ugadawg5, Dont know you too well but allow me to interject something. These questions without context usually go no place real fast. If I asked AK-47 vs M-16A2 who wins? How would you answer that without knowing the skill of the shooters and the operational conditions? Of course we could negate all that by saying AK-47 vs M-16A2 all other things being equal and just go from there. But in combat all things are never equal and such a hypothetical is absolutely meaningless. I dont mean to suggest your question is bad or invalid. Just that you need to put a little more detail and context to get a meaningful answer. Otherwise posters choosing to reply will simply make a subjective analysis. DA

Who wins? Who cares. Most of the nations procuring said types will be friends/allies anyway.

Who wins? Who cares. Most of the nations procuring said types will be friends/allies anyway. In the past, French companies have shown a willingness to sell arms to numerouse Middle Eastern countries. A encounter of the two airplanes could be highly possible in the next decade.

Well, I don't really agree with dismissing this question out of hand, but it has been answered before, particularly in the recent F-35 vs Eurocanards thread. To sum it up, if the aircraft are operating in isolation (no AWACS, no standoff jammer support, no GCI etc etc) then the Eurofighter has a big edge in BVR because in BVR its radar has much longer range, and in WVR is has a slight edge because of its superior thrust to weight. But since both aircraft field modern HMS systems and HOBS missiles, neither aircraft has a particularly great advantage in WVR. Of course, in real life these aircraft will probably never face each other, and if they did they would be backed up by a huge array of supporting systems, so the particular dynamic performance of each becomes moot at that point.

"then the Eurofighter has a big edge in BVR because in BVR its radar has much longer range," Well data are secret. However we recognize that our PESA radar is shorter range until we replace it by an AESA antenna in 4 years. However Rafale lower RCS is supposed to do more than compensate difference in radar range today. " and in WVR is has a slight edge because of its superior thrust to weight. " Well difference is very few.Since rafale is quoted at 9,4 tonnes with 2*8 tons with M88-2E4 vs more than 10 t with 2*9 for EF. And you right ArtyEngineer , Rafale has Spectra. Do you think a EF towed decoy is suitable to air combat? Frankly difference will be more on the pilot and environment. What is sure is that Rafale can ALSO do AtoG work unless EF.

You didnt piss people off and your question is both valid and can be informative if asked properly. People who dont like vs threads or who have nothing to contribute should simply not participate and leave the discussion to people who are interested. There are lots of threads I dont even post in because I know I have either no knowledge of the subject matter or I am not interested for whatever reason. Eurocanard trivia: A pair of Eurofighters has more weapons stations than there are operational Rafales if you factor in the OR rate.

However Rafale lower RCS is supposed to do more than compensate difference in radar range today. It doesn't, though. The Rafale has lost badly in BVR exercises againt both F/A-18Es with APG-73 and against Su-30Ks, both of whose radar range is similar or inferior to the Eurofighter's.

Phaid From reading the varius F35 vs Eurocanards vs F/A18's vs SU-XX's etc I have always go tthe impression that the Captor Radar in the Typhoon was the inferior?
