Oh yes there is. What are the French doing in south Lebanon?
Protecting the Hezb-Allah while it is rearming and rebuilding its fortifications.
The Siniora government is falling. Since UNIFIL's mission is assistance to the 60% Shi'ite Lebanese army, they will pretty soon be taking their orders from Tehran.
The UNIFIL troops have not suffered one casualty so far. That's good. They should keep it up, and leave before they find themselves in the middle of that inevitable regional war.
OTOH, there is the possibility that they desist from their UN mandate, become a European Expeditionnary Force, and move north to Beyrouth to buttress what's left of the elected pro-western Lebanese regime.
That would make sense, since I cannot see how it is in Europe's interest to allow Lebanon to turn into a Persian forward staging area.
