Subject: Most Powerful Military of All Time in Terms of Global Percentage
Aeb4ever    1/13/2006 1:20:45 AM
What was the most powerful military of all time in terms of global share of military power? For example, the USA is currently ranked at having about 53% of total naval power. I am referring in terms of all branches vs the world. My votes would be either the Mongols at height, Romans at height, English at height, USA after WWII, or USA after Cold War. Can’t make a guess at each countries percentage though. Fell free to add your own list or make a guess at the percentages of mine.

"Britain's strength did not and does not come from her "Royal" Navy but her Military Intelligence." huh? drake, frobisher, nelson, fisher?? gt britain had a barely functional military intelligence for hundreds of years. she was a maritime power as she was also an economic power. military intelligence is useless without having the sword and the shield to back it up. for goodness sake - read Mahan He's an american so you might pay attention to him.

"The Germans with their U-Boats. " you really need to do your research. the u boats dominated for a total of about 2 years - and then the poms turned the tide and cleaned their clocks. after black tuesday the german u boat flotilla was an absolutely spent force.

"the u boats dominated for a total of about 2 years" When the war was being lost, you saw German dominance slip accross all their branches.

"I disagree. If the Nation of Britain was in the desert, she would still be a formiable force." I haven't even discussed the poms as a landforce military power - the example being used is maritime as it universally regarded as the longest period of dominance of any maritime power - if not - who else comes close to 300 years of dominance and with the same volume of engagement with virtually every maritime european naval power. the only ones who come close are the french, then the dutch, then the spanish

"When the war was being lost, you saw German dominance slip accross all their branches. " yes, and the tide started turning in 1942 - and guess who was bearing the brunt of it all?

"I haven't even discussed the poms as a landforce military power" No, everybody makes much do about nothing when it comes to the British Navy. What I am trying to tell you if they were a landlocked nation they still would have been formiable. They possess military inteligence.

"What I am trying to tell you if they were a landlocked nation they still would have been formiable. They possess military inteligence. " if by that you mean that they have a penchant for waging and winning war - then I agree - but if you're talking about actual military intelligence as a military specialty, - then they also had some shockers. whats stood them in good stead is that they know the craft.

A poor assessment of potential perhaps (definately!), but it was more of a withdrawal than a military defeat. Hell Canada beat the US by herself and didn't want it either. It is a credit to the 'diplomatic skills' of the religious cranks that they made something out of a rag-bag collection of tribal areas. A bible and a gun is oldschool, but half a dozen different bibles is confusing the enemy! GF: what colonies did they lose as a result of WW2? None. Nada, Zip Zero Zilch. britain lost nothing due to ww2 via conflict Those crafty colonists wrote there own ticket out of mother empire. The US even bought some caribean islands for some beads. Well. I say beads, they claim that they were destroyers, but they hadn't been destroyers for years...
