After WWII PLA participated in several conflicts. Korea, Soviet Eastern Border, Vietnam, and conflict with India. As far as I know, none of those conflicts involved much of really modern military technology. More like improved WWII technology. Not much, if any, guided missiles , smart munitions, electronic warfare, etc. However, their drones proved themselves successful in Libya, used by LNA. During conflict with Vietnam PLA has proven capable of learning on its own mistakes and improving performance on the fly. In the end, I am not really sure what to think about it.

Just stating the obvious, but how is a society supposed to fight a war where each family only has one son and what would the effects be if such a war becomes an attritional war? What is the breaking point or critical mass of unrest where the society unravels b/c each dead son effectively means a family lineage is destroyed is the government is responsible b/c of its one child policy?

Lefiee3 The one family one child policy was changed Introduced in 1979, the policy meant that many Chinese citizens - around a third, China claimed in 2007 - could not have a second child without incurring a fine. In rural areas, families were allowed to have two children if the first was a girl. Other exceptions included ethnic minorities and - since 2013 - couples where at least one was a single child. Aside from all that, China still has population to burn. With 1.5 billion people they have five times the population of the US and ten times that of Russia. A war of attrition would still have them coming out on top especially if Vietnam is any measure along with all the hand wringing over the miniscule casualties the US suffered in ten years of fighting in two foreign wars.

Except that their population is actually declining, due to the one-child policy; and younger folks (25-35) choosing to marry later-if at all. This is a concern, so much so that there is a "have more kids" propaganda push.
