|Arrived in NYC with a lot of fanfare and excitement. I saw the ship sailing down the Hudson while i was driving on the west side highway. You cant tell from the pictures but the friggin thing is huge! Its almost as big as the USS Intrepid its docked next to.

Now special sentiment aside, this is supposed to be the first of 6 LPD series ships designed for brown water warfare. As a landing vessel she boasts:
* Two V-22 tilt-rotor Osprey aircraft
* Three types of helicopters
* 14 expeditionary fighting vehicles EFVs and/or LCACs.
Now for all you Navy buffs out there, what i'd like to know is what does this do in the way of shoring up the USN's littoral presence along with the LCSs commissioned a few years ago?
