If the Communist government of China did somehow collapse or was overthrown, could the military seize power and rule there in the near future?

That is exactly what would happen.  Now transpose that theory onto what is going on in HK and the sympathy protests popping up in the mainland.  The state media is openly discussing the use of the PAP, which is accustomed to handing out bullets and beatings with no media coverage.

And the HK police have urban SWAT teams, and their loyalty to Beijing is questionable.  Media feeds to the mainland are being cut, chat rooms are being wiped clean.  The rumor is that after the national holiday weekend, the real ugly happens.

Probably a reversion to warlordism with each army district going it’s own way.  Possibly even a return to the Warring States period.  Economic collapse is almost certain in this scenario.

And history repeats itself - lovely.

Not good for international stability.
