Subject: What do SARCs do?
colts    2/2/2007 6:32:24 PM
a good friend of mine has wanted to be a navy seal his whole life, anyway his eye sight is way to bad and they said he cant get a waiver for it (he is in Corpsman A school right now in illinios) they said he might be able to get SARC, and he asked me to find out all i can about it. Ive done some research but cant find much detailed info. What I found out was that they are Corpsman attached to Force Recon battalions, and they go through all the same schools as FR. Is this true? and is there more?

Progressive myopia ended my naval aviation career prematurely.  Now they accept lasik, which they didn’t appreciate back in my day, when I actually begged for radial keratotamy at my expense.  Your friend, he has investigated lasik?

yes he has, his eye is weak.  He has good vision at first however after a few seconds his left eye getts really bad.  the best they could do with lasik he told me is 20-40 i think, however it might be 20-70.  Not sure its bad though, he is a bad ass so where theres a will theres a way.

Tell him to check out PRK surgery. It is acceptable to the Navy and BUD/S because the intrusion to the eye is so minor.

Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman

With Force Recon standing down and being resurected as MSOB this will be a growing oppurtunity, however, MARSOC will only have about 2500 personel total meaning a limited number of SARCS. Besides the two MSOB's the Corps also stood up the FMTU. Maybe some clarification here

Force Recon BNs become Marine Special Operations BN, composed of MSOC's (Marine Special Operations Companies) These are basically the old Force Recon Comapnies augmented with HUMINT and support Assets

The FMTU Foriegn Military Training Unit - Similar to Army SF

This is all part of the USMC's new donation to the Joint Special operations command.

Hey Colt, I retired as a CWO3 from USMC, I answered your question in another thread as to how they are chosen, what specifically do you want to know?

No, I was a very bored Junior in college --- that was the only regret that I really have. I should have completed my final 3 semesters of school first. It took me 6 years to complete what I could have done in in 18 months or actually less if I pushed myself. I would have opened other doors for me down the road at the time in the Corps as well.

thanks badnews.  So if I finish college, would it be a good idea for me to still enlist?  or would you just recomend going 2nd luie?  I have never been to keen on the idea of being commisioned right away.  I belive the best leaders learn to follow first.  Also from talking to friends that have recently enlisted, they say that they respect the prior enlisteds first. What do you think?
