here we go, don't see this one too often, what do you think is the worst special forces currently operating (wonder if we'll see any reverse pecker competitions i.e. "my country's SF are worse than yours") but you can be serious if you want... oh and don't be a nob end and just use this to slag off other people (oh what have i begun?) (e, there's no more smileys, and i wanted to use that one with the puzzled... distraught look)

Well, I'd say that Africa probably has the worst SOF by continent...I don't know any specific SOF groups from Africa.

actually africa as a continent has quite a few SF groups, i wont go into actual names but here are some countries i know of that possess SF units: Burundi, kenya, cameroon, ivory coast (or cote de ivoire for you frogs out there), egypt, DR of congo, ghana, djibouti, gabon, gambia, morrocco, madagascar, mali, nigeria, namibia, mozambique, eritrea, niger, south africa (SADF SFB-cummon kid, you've heard of them for sure), sudan, senegal, togo, and zimbabwe, that's quite a few if you think about it, not forgetting that a lot of the above nations have more than one SF unit (although the big thing in africa today is presidential protection... but a lot of 'em can be considered SF), and also, there are likely more nations with SF in africa than mentioned above, those are the ones i've heard of (or can remember in my old age... shite i even had to write it down to remember)

The South African military used to have some pretty good Special Forces units, but I don't know how good they are anymore. South Africans formed a mercenary company called Executive Outcomes that was mostly made up of veterans, and they were able to wreak some havoc against some African rebel groups.
But the question was who are the worst special forces. Right off the top of my head I would have to mention the Egyptians. They experienced a couple of disastrous DA and hostage rescue operations in the 70's and 80's that got a lot of innocent people killed. In one action in Cyprus they ended up engaging in a gun battle with the Cypriot National Guard! I would hope they have gotten better, but that is one example of a bad Special Forces unit.

Didn't realize there were that many in Africa, are they any good? Any idea on their selection?
Yeah, South Africa has some awesome, awesome SOF (don't know any specific units though, but I watched a show on Discover Times detailing a few months inside a South African Tier 1 HRT unit)...I have heard that one of the SA operators basically started the whole PMC thing.

Egyptian SOF was in a gun battle with another nations NG during peace time? LOL, that is very, very bad...maybe their compasses were inaccurate

egypt: let's not forget the boeing 737 assault by task force 777, not the greatest of results to say the least. then again, i don't think anymore egypt airlines have been hijacked since. if i were an egyptian, i don't think i'd fly anymore after that result, talk about going out with a BANG

not true i'm afraid... if we look back in history you can see many units that could be considered PMC's. hell the swiss were always hired during the wars in europe back in the 1500's and 1600's. and how long has the swiss vatican gaurd been around (surely you can consider them a form of PMC) if you ask me the forming of PMC's was more a coincidence than a founded and formed proffession

as i said before GOP a lot of african SF's are really just presidential or head of state protection units (not to say they're not elite) but they just don't handle the same area of responsibilty as many western and asian SF units. however, there are some fairly credible SF units among them, SDF is a competent fighting force, and other african SF units hold a vast number of indigenous persons in their ranks so they have been brought up in the land and know how to survive
