Paramilitary groups of the Reagan era is what keeps this country afloat today. Sometimes military cannot fight by the rules to complete its mission. Paramilitary is the only way to go during these times.

We have gotten our ass kicked in unconvential battles before in the past. Example: Rangers in Somalia. At that point a paramilitary unit would have been the best thing. Instead, our boys were drug through the streets without action.

I'm not disputing that we use, or should use, paramilitary groups to further forign policy objectives. However, I don't think Mogadishu can be used as an example of Third World failure. The Tier One personalities were retrieved and many Somalis killed in the process. The overall operation in Somalia was a failure, but that particular raid was very successful.

somalia was not a failure. The mission was accomplished with much more expect casualties. The US could have cleared house and kicked ass in Somalia if it wasnt for the people in the US who expect a nice clear war with laser guided bombs and few casualties. A few dead bodies should have increased demand for revenge and redemption from the operation and BTW Somalia was a hand me down for Papa Bush.
