Subject: UK drawback..... victory or failure
paul1970    9/4/2007 6:11:20 AM
with the UK pulling out of Basra palace to the airfield into overwatch role and handing over control of Basra to the Iraqi's.... 3 out of 4 provinces already formally handed over and 4th soon.

is the UK mission a success or a failure?

just talking about the Brit area...  not Iraq in particular....
the Brits are being attacked more than they were at the start and early periods, and by the people they liberated....
most of Basra area problems are Shia versus Shia (most Sunni objections already dealt with).
Sunni activity was minor in this area anyway( not enough of them and outsiders coming in to cause trouble stood out too much and Shias's generally delt with them....).
AlQ Sunni almost non existant in the area (as above)....
Iranian backed action very much on the increase with better munitions being filtered to the various Shia militias, hence increase damage to British from IEDs

but even so.... the Brits have handed over control and so could declare that they achieved their stated goal from the beginning.

The UK?, You're fighting under even more handicapping rules in the UK...difficult to determine who will come out on top. Brits, or Brits with dual citizenship in countries of a religion that we refuse to say...

eventual success...no doubt.

What pisses me slightly off is that there was discussion a year or so ago about how the British were far more experienced and better in fighting insurgencies than the overly agressive cowboy Americans who shoot too much.

And if things in the British area are going badly, then why not ask your US allie for help before it gets completely out of control?
