Israel's nuclear arsenal is somethin that doesn't get much press, and for good reason. They don't want it talked about much, the less other people know, they better the Israelis feel.

A guess (which I cannot qualtify in any way) is that they traded nuke technology with South Africa for uranium.

I live in israel and one of the things that most of the people belive in is the "SAMSON" project. From what i know from the press,etc.., the project main goal is "the second strike". That means that if the I.D.F will lose a war then isrel will send her second strike, all of her nukes to enemy(Arabs countries) countries.

I don't have any confirmed references to back up my claim, but the defence and military links that Israel has is known, especially with long established defence and military ties to South Africa and Singapore. Its conceivable that Israel and South Africa's relationship extended further than just developing small arms. The South African Cheetah upgrade of the Mirage 3 has plenty in common with the Kifr, and the South African R series of assault rifles were direct Galil look-alikes. In fact, while Isreal has established new defence links to India and China, these seem more on a manufacterer/client basis, while the Israel-South Africa-Singapore ties still seem quite strong, and extends to R&D.

The Cheetah was an Israeli - SA collaboration. I had some doco on it some years back. Certainly from a number of diff entities I knew they were of the belief that SA and Israel were technology partners in nukes, aircraft,artillery and AFV's. But, I guess it's all speculation and history now.

Cheetahs are the South African upgrade of the Mirage 3. They have a great resemblance to the Kifr C2, although there has never been any official acknowledgment from either Israel or South Africa, as the Cheetah was upgraded when South Africa was under an international arms embargo.
