Subject: Origin of the Mig 29 radar?
Okoshka    3/9/2004 6:47:30 AM
Long ago somewhere I read that the russians for the MIG 29 stole the newest developed F16 or F18 (I don't remember) radar.
Some AM 65 or what.
(When the Russians were asked about it at the late '80 they asked:MIG 29? What's that?)
Was it a hoax?

No, there is some truth in it. I was reading an article the other day about this. Russian spies managed to get some functional specs of the AG-65 - hence the reason for upgrading the radar. I'll post the mag article when I find it.

From what I have read, the Russians stole the blueprints of newly desighned radar that was intended to be used by America on all fighters. Unfortunatly we were not able to prove that the Russians did infact ''steel'' are plans, and of course the incident went unchallenged.
