Russian troops retook the villages of Argun (eight kilometers east of Grozny) and Shali (25 kilometers southeast of Grozny.) The Chechen rebels claim to have taken six towns, including the new capital Gudermes. But the Russians only admit to losing control of Shali and Argun, two towns providing easier access Grozny.
