Philippines: DNA Leads The Way

Archives

June 26, 2007: The U.S. FBI is providing DNA analysis services for Filipino security forces. Islamic radicals are often killed in battles, but carry no identification, and no one will identify them. Often there are no photos of these guys. So DNA has become a key tool in keeping track of which Islamic terrorist leaders have been captured or killed. Sometimes the bodies are not found for a while, and even photos are useless.

June 25, 2007: NPA rebels raided a police post in the south, killing one policeman and stealing five assault rifles. In the north, police clashed with armed squatters, leaving nine civilians dead, and dozens wounded (including ten police). June 20, 2007: The army has sent 120 commandos to help rescue a kidnapped Italian priest in the south. The MILF has identified the group that took the priest, but has been unable to convince the Moslem gang to let their Italian captive go.

June 19, 2007: On Basilan island, police cornered and killed two brothers, who had been the organizers of several Islamic terrorist operations. Each of the brothers had a price ($21,700) on their head.
