The two teams of US Army Special Forces are in Kirghizstan to provide training in mountain warfare for Kirghiz units may become an essential element during the coming war on terrorism. For the last two years, the Central Asian nations have been fighting Islamic radicals trained in Afghanistan. Central Asian soldiers know a lot about moving about the mountains and plains they grew up in, but the American Special Forces bring with them special skills in using technology and anti-terror tactics. The Americans know a lot about what works and what doesn't work. But perhaps most importantly, the Americans are learning how to work with Central Asian people first hand.
