J&K Minister Killed In Militant Attack

Heavily-armed militants today shot dead the Jammu and Kahsmir Minister of state for education Ghulam Nabi Lone at his official residence in Tulsibagh locality. In the ensuing gunbattle, two securitymen and an attacker were killed. Firing indiscriminately and hurling hand grenades, two militants first attacked the residence of CPI-M MLA Yousuf Tarigami. After being challenged by his security personnel there, the militants barged into the neighbouring house of Lone and opened fire injuring him critically. The 62-year old Lone, who had joined PDP just before the assembly elections only three years ago and won from Sangrama constiuency, was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought-dead. He is the first minister of the Mufti Sayeed government to have fallen to militancy.
