...or a police action? John kerry to Tom Brokow: This is how he characterized the war on terror to Tom Brokaw: "I think there has been an exaggeration," he said. "They are really misleading all of America, Tom, in a profound way. ... It's primarily an intelligence and law-enforcement operation." A column in todays Washington Times.

"I think there has been an exaggeration," he said. "They are really misleading all of America, Tom, in a profound way. ... It's primarily an intelligence and law-enforcement operation." It was classified as a law-enforcement war, that is until events culminated into a personal horror of 9-11, and i feel sure that many other americans woke up to the same reality of that morning. Except, for the kerry's of america. I don't mean to belittle other nations, that this particular evil has visited before ours, but, those terrorists B*stards just happened to make this personal in my eyes. No, Mr. Kerry just doesn't get it, and i Hope he never does! (Note: Although, i feel i must say in kerry's defense; That the message sounds good, it just belongs in another era.

Kerry's right in that fighting terrorism can't be a solely military operation. However, he's wrong in implying the military has no business fighting terror. The CIA looks for terrorists. The FBI arrests those here at home. The military captures or kills those abroad. The American government leans on foreign powers to expel or destroy those terrorists in their midst, allies with those of like minds who want to destroy terrorists, and provide economic aid to those who help us, which may eliminate some of the underlying causes for terrorism in the first place. This kind of antiterrorism goes back as far as Eric Hoffer's "The True Believer," which was written back in the 1950s. It's a team effort. Unfortunately, "team effort" doesn't seem to be a word in the Beltway lexicon. Besides, a police action is what doughnuts to get.
