On today’s opening page there is an article about Europe’s declining weapon spending, the widening gap between Europe and the US, and the emotional difficulties Europeans are having dealing with this. I wonder if the attitudes of certain European posters could be attributed to this feeling of declining power?

funny, todays editorials was about how the US pressed the EU into not having a defense pact inside the borders of the eu in favor of NATO. us was also against a coalition of eu-nations performing military operations together and a pentagonstyle common military headquater. none of this happens, though there were many additional reasons for each apart from us preassure.

Europe's in quite a fix because selling weapons to the enemies of the United States hasn't exactly had the counter-balancing effect they seek.

I'm not so certain all of Europe should be lumped in together in this. Let's not forget to give recognition to our tried and true allies over there.

Even the Brits are cutting defense spending. Frankly, they don't see the need for it like we do. Which, in most of their cases, is understandable. They aren't considered the Great Satan, after all.
