Subject: A-6 Intruder

It has to be one of the finest naval aircraft ever built, but a question occurs. Whenever the warload of the A-6 is specified, it seems to be quoted as being 28 x Mk82s, yet there are plenty of pictures of them carrying 30 - presumably the weight is the reason, since wartime allows relaxation of normal limits. Any other explanations?

"FYI, a lot of Naval Aviators outside the attack community called the A6 the Turkey Leg Why?" DB look at the shape. The front end is like the fat end of a turkey leg that tapers towards the tail.

It is so sad when people start to lose their minds, and at such a young age...

No explanation why they chose to go with the horrific A-12 over the reliable A6-E.  She was ugly, slow, and when fully loaded heavy, but damn if she couldn't fly in the dark, any weather, and deliver on target and on time.

They replaced her with the F/A 18 which can't hit the broadside of a barn with a bomb and is a terrible dive bomber (*nod* to the A7)

Having great capabilities for dumb bomb delivery accuracy and point attack dive bombing aren't as much of a necessity now in an era of wipespread GPS and JDAM weapon use. No need to dive bomb a target when you can lob an SDB at it from standoff range.
