Rather than PR gimicry of the sort that our "war" on ISIS is, why not fully engage in controlling/ending the ebola outbreak in West Africa?

Because “controlling/ending the ebola outbreak” isn’t a matter of manpower but medical breakthroughs for effective treatment and vaccines. And the biggest problem isn’t funding but testing and ethical issues.

The methods for controlling the infection are well-known and intensely immoral. If it becomes an airborne infectious virus, we may be forced to use those means. In the meantime, the colossal mismanagement that the US public health services have displayed have demonstrated a glaring exploit, that can be used against the American polity. WN is right, that it is a question of applied science, actually well known straightforward applied medical science that is still possible under rigid medical ethical protocols at this early stage of the disease outbreak. We should not be afraid to educate the US and Canadian populaces about the transmission routes and what basic common sense steps we need to take to mitigate disease transmission and our population exposure. But let me be BLUNT about applied common sense in this case. With this crew of ignoramuses, panic mongers, buck passers and utter incompetents handling the politically correct science for this scientifically imbecilic and illiterate administration beginning with a man who never solved a problem in his life, but relied on other people to make him LOOK good, the solutions will be less ethical, less effective, and less politically palatable in the long run than it could be if we were to apply quarantine, isolation and experimental treatment to the early patients.

And let's be honest, people are going to die. A LOT of African people are going to die. That does not mean Americans need to expose themselves to help those infected populations. It is inevitable that possibly more Americans will come down with symptoms and be infected. And they will die, because of stinking politics.

Now I note that after Doctor Gottlieb warned Rock Hudson to take sensible precautions so as to not to infect anyone else, that man refused to alter his behaviors and he remained a disease transmitter until his own senseless death.

You cannot expect people to behave rationally, especially when they have decided to continue as they done before, because they think they have a 'privilege' or a 'right'. Responsibility seems beyond them.

This is the problem with Ebola. Stupid people in charge have sensible protocols and procedures, well tested protocols and procedures, which for reasons of class warfare Marxism and racism they will not implement. Note that while the political LEFT this time is the chief culprit, the last time it was the political RIGHT who refused to act appropriately; again for ideological rather than scientific reasons.

I have no reason to be optimistic.
