Subject: The US is really becoming a tasteless, boorish society... thanks to Flynt and like minds

h*tp://bighollywood.breitbart.com/awrhawkins/2011/06/04/larry-flynt-wishes-sarah-palins-son-trig-had-nnver-been-born/#more-481128 So, now that a certain ex-politician children have been relentlessly mocked, ridiculed and rhetorically attacked, i assume it is now fair game to go after the Obama girls? Really, we shouldn't even be going there, but sooner or later it is bound too happen.

The tasteless, boorish acts come from the left 99 times out of 100. The only one time it was from the right, was condemn from both right and left. Did Charlie Rangle resign yet? Did Tony Weiner resign yet? I have learned long time ago that leftists are not nice people.

As somebody who has worked extensively in the area of disabilities, I think that Flynt raised a legitimate bioethical issue about to what extent we should preserve the life of a person who has no quality of life, or whether parents should feel compelled to allow a fetus to grow to full term when there is conclusive evidence that it will be severely disabled. It's not a question that I claim to have an answer to but I do know that this isn't necessarily a left/right debate ... I know many in the disability lobby who would are distinctly left wing who would probably throw their hands up in horror at what Flynt is suggesting.
As for him using Palin's kid as the example, well, all I can say is that she uses the little fella to make political statements by publicising her circumstances. Do that and she has to be prepared to subject to criticism from different perspectives. If she kept her and her kid's private life private I might hold a different view.

Personally I find the characterisation of Flynt in the article posted and in particular in some of the links as more offensive than anything he has said. The first thing the writer does is to label him an "alledged rapist". Why is a crime for which he has not been found guilty remotely relevant to this discussion? They then go out of their way to ridicule his physical appearance and disability, his hillbilly background ... everything that is "wrong" with him. The only thing they leave out is that the reason that the guy is in a wheelchair is that he was shot by a God fearin', gun-totin' nutcase.

This sort of journalism reminds me of a medieval witch trial and I find it disturbing that 21st century people buy into this crap.

Frankly I'd forgotten Larry Flynt was still alive till now.  Picking out a few people from among 300 million and drawing conclusions about society is a tad ridiculous.  The one conclusion that should be reached is that this nation stands for free speech and a variety of views and tolerates those we disagree with.

Tolerance being the cornerstone for a free society.  We've got a lot more extremists in this country than Larry Flynt and we can do with more.  Whether he and others make me laugh, yawn, or get annoyed they have every right to say what they wish and I have every right to pay attention or ignore them.  A boorish society is one that resorts to violence over the free speech in other nations.

Most men live lives of quiet desperation and do so rather modestly.  Tasteless and boring indeed.  America is not actually the sensationalistic headlines on the news and for the most part either ignores or is totally oblivious to all that noise.  As for becoming tasteless one might look up the media for Jefferson's campaign 200+ years ago, now some of that was tasteless.  If anything political speech in this country has moderated through our history.

As well as they should be horror struck at the thought. I do think it is highly important that a disabled person have a chance at life and as a society to encourage the preservation of that life.

As for him using Palin's kid as the example, well, all I can say is that she uses the little fella to make political statements by publicising her circumstances. Do that and she has to be prepared to subject to criticism from different perspectives. If she kept her and her kid's private life private I might hold a different view.

As if she were the first advocate to espouse a political cause of another. So what if it took a relative of hers to open her eyes, that is how most these cases go! But, for the sake of your argument, let's say she does deserve all this ridicule and hatred directed towards her and her family, then what is to stop others in making fun of Micheal J. Fox's predicament and telling him too go jump off a bridge to end his suffering and save taxpayer money! Or how about this one: To bad Christopher Reeves passed away. We missed out on a lot of hilarious jokes at his expense! People should have told Dana to disconnect him from everything that had sustained his life so that it would  have helped her with her expenses and emotional well being in getting rid of dead weight! Sound cold? Well it is very frigid comment too make and that is how the atmosphere is degenerating for people who do not prescribe to the progressive liberal worldview here in the states! Do you see where i am trying to go with this? Just because Mr. Flynt is disabled doesn't give a right to mock or denigrate the life of another only because of the mother's politics. As freakin' simple as that!

Personally I find the characterisation of Flynt in the article posted and in particular in some of the links as more offensive than anything he has said.

Now you know what it like for me nearly every freakin' time i read a d@mn news link that is greatly doused in political bias! Don't get me wrong, i like Mrs. Palin but not enough to support her in any election, but the level of animosity directed at her from those of a differing political view is down right horribly disgusting!!!! For the love of god, if you don't like her, then just ignore her!

This sort of journalism reminds me of a medieval witch trial and I find it disturbing that 21st century people buy into this crap.

You shouldn't be so surprised, those on the right in the US have been putting up with this crap for decades now, and frankly, it is most refreshing for me to see some of the oh so few conservative journalist FINALLY pushing back against a predominantly liberal MSM establishment.

I am sure that sounds harsh, and regretfully so i might add, but in the immortal words of Popeye the Sailor man: "I had all that i can stand, and i can't stands no more!" Now where is the d@mn spinach!

I really wish it were only him. Funnily enough, in tolerating his right to freedom of speech, Mrs. Palin is to be mocked for and derisively denied her beliefs.

Really!? Funny that those who disagree with Mrs. Palin do not and cannot tolerate her, and not only her but, also others who do not think like them.

Being mocked goes with the territory and it doesn't help that Palin is not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.  I'm a life long Republican and frankly Palin has clearly not been mocked enough given the fact there is one person in the world who thinks there is any chance whatsoever she could win an election for President.  To say she's intellectually challenged is being kind.

This is not to defend what Flynt said against her, but paying attention to what one extreme leftist says to someone on the right, and vice versa, is almost always pointless.

1st
I really don't feel any urge to lower my standards so I can "go after the Obama girls".

2nd
I really don't care about mr Flynt, views on politics.
I also really don't care about why they bother to print his views.
For all I know he is just another "has been" spewing outrageous crap for self promotion.

Why are we talking about this?

I don't care at the moment whether she is the sharpest tool in the shed or not, because if she is indeed truly stupid, then she has used that bestowed media persona too greatly pad her bank account, making her far more smarter than the rest of us struggling to make ends meet or just simply living comfortably but, certainly no richer than otherwise could be.

Indeed if the criticism was directed at her politics, then that is one thing and i would agree with you in her lack of electability. However, as conservatives do not set the tone of national discourse, and never really have for decades, what comes next is easily predictable and at one time avoidable. As it is, Larry Flynt is not alone is expressing his misogynist views.

Why are we talking about this?

Because, one of the big exports from the US is our culture, including our political discourse. And it has as much impact on geopolitics as does a surgical missile strike in some place called F##kedupastan.
