Now you might ask what this has to do with anything. Fair enough.
First off, it would seem to be a pretty good demonstration why maybe paying donors for organs might be a good idea. There is always a shortage of donors (using a smoker's lungs appears to be a clear indicator) and as a rule, incentives do change behavior.
Secondly, it shows how a socialist system is generally quite unaccountable. The patient were never told the risks of the donor tissue. They found out by accident. Even now that they know, given that it is the government, it's not actionable (though it should be noted the clip doesn't mention anything as to whether the smoking had any impact at all on the death of the recipient).
Mainly the issue here is that a government can issue such a policy without a qualm and happily justify it in public. This is the very same government which has effectively banned smoking in public for health reasons. |
