Subject: Open thoughts on NYC Plot
DarthAmerica    5/4/2010 2:09:14 PM
What do you guys think about the speed in which the Time Square attempted terror bombing suspect was captured? I just watched an official reference Jack Bauer being able to capture suspect in "24 Minutes"(He meant 24 hours) and the USG capturing this guy in ~50 hours just before his escape on a Emirates Airline 777-ER. I got a little chuckle out of the 24 reference during a press conference...lol!   Anyway, I still think that it's pretty good work to capture this guy at all in that mass of people in NYC so quickly. We were very lucky but lets not fool ourselves. This could have easily had a much worse outcome. I've seen some home made bombs and damage from those bombs that would have cause a lot of fatalities in a place like this. Let me share a little bit about bomb attacks.   When you are in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, the roads are/were(much less now) filled with all kinds of man made debris and trash. It's almost impossible to avoid and we pay a lot of money to the indegeonous to remove it. Particularly frightening are abandoned vehicles and large animal carcasses! This is because of the size of the bombs that can be concealed in such objects. Unlike a modern developed society they don't have "Jiffy Lube" or other established vehicle maintenance in places like that so broken down vehicles are quite common. In a place like NYC the tactic is similar because we park our vehicles on the roadside all the time which allows for this. Early reporting indicates this suspect was from Pakistan and immigrated here recently. BIG SURPRISE. Defense against this is a monster task to say the least. I think the one thing that is protecting us above all else is the vast oceans otherwise we would almost certainly experience this more often. In an open society like ours there just really is little we can do practically speaking. We are in the pickle of having to destroy our enemies, secure energy supplies and not infringe on our own domestic rights while getting out of occupying the Middle East and Southwest Asia. These are obviously conflicting interest with no easy or foreseeable solution. What to do? -DA

Then the media taught all future car bombrs how to cover their tracks with stories that tell us how the terrorist removed one of the VIN plates but left others on.  The articles conveniently tell readers where the VIN plates were and that their presence led them to the would be bomber.

I am of the opinion that we should have it out now with the terrorists.  Stop trying to not offend them, stop being sensitive, just have it out now while our economy is relatively stronger and our fiscal position is better than it will ever be again thanks to health care, entitlements and the bailouts.

We also need to form partnerships with up and comers who are going to be terrorized in the future (or now).  This is mainly India but also China although many will oppose working with China since they're the only threat that justifies increased big ticket syastems spending.

  What to do?

Get China,India,NATO, and Russia to launch full scale attack against Iran. Then give the oil contracts to each. Afterall, France had no trouble taking oil money for food, and Russia has no problem cutting off the gas to Eastern Europe, and CCP has no problem supporting the Sudan for a few barrels more. As for India? Well they are going to need a few barrels more soon enough.

  As for Terrorists?

All we can do is drain the swamp, before they drain us. Maybe Mr Obama could have taken that trillion and gave it towards military pay and recruitment bonus, and maybe you guys would have an extra 50,000 to secure the border with Pakistan? If you guys are unable to do that ,then the Taliban will just keep popping up.

Iran is the #1 supporter of  terrorism, and the #1 cause of problems still in Iraq, and with Israel. They support Hamas and Hezbullies. It would seem that if the world really wanted to stop terrorism, then Iran should be near the top of the list. Along with Pakistan, AQ, Taliban, and Somalia.

I know it must really suck having to dodge IED DA, I really wish all our guys the best for doing it!. If I had a better answer or place to start I would give you one. It is a tough situation to be in. Maybe we should have kept those 14 divisions and 200 ships just in case?

The bombers don't seem to be doing well. No-one with a well functioning support network sets out to do terrorist attacks with that poorly designed devices and getaway plans. Unless this was some sort of a distraction of course, which I doubt.

Of course there might've been a handful of deaths and some severe burns to people close by had it gone off, but as I understand the device was so stupid it was virtually unable to produce anything than a big fire even if it had worked. The actual explosives seem to have been neatly isolated from all heat sources.

So congratulations to you my American friends, and to all those who are pressing the terrorist network as hard as you are. All they seem to be capable of doing is to spray complete amateurs around and hope for the best. This doesn't mean there weren't some serious outfits out there too, but there is a scent of desperation in the air when these guys start to show up.

Worst thing one could do would be to start underestimating one's opponent on basis of this, it is the serious effort put into this that produces this outcome.

I just hope the next guy is as stone-cold stupid.  Worst constructed bomb in history IMO.

All of you complaining about the media shouldn't.  The guy had to be willfully ignorant to be as retarded as he was.  Simple, extremely basic google searches would have yielded information on VIN locations, easily obtainable explosive materials, explosives design, etc.  If someone can't figure out which fertilzer to use, not to use propane, or that the VIN number is in more than one place on his own, any information the media gives probably isn't going to help them anyway.  You can't fix stupid.

This guy didn't even try.

They are getting pretty common. Note the airlines continue to be porous in spite of the billions spent. It is only a matter of time before another one is successful. Then the current political admin/media will spin it as someone else's fault.

No one sees the fishiness on the whole event?

Before they catch the suspects, it was reported that a "white male in his 40s" who "changed his shirt" on the street near the rigged SUV. Then NYC leftist angi-gun mayor Michael Bloomberg said that it could be a Tea Partier who disaprove the health care bill.

And, you have a bunch of terrirosts who was allegedly trained in AQ camp in Pakistan, and apparently don't know how to make a bomb. Something doesn't add up. It seems that they got their explosive training from Hollywood instead of terrirost training camp.

And, again, the alleged terrorist bought a car without registration. Who's selling a car without making sure the certification is properly transfered? And what kind of idiot will leave behind electronic records easily to be traced?

And why doesn't he want to leave for Dubai IMMEDIATELY after placing the bomb, instead of waiting for two days for the FBI or NYPD to catch up?

And what kind of son of PAF high ranking officer would get involved into things like this?

I'm not saying this is an inside job. It doesn't look like an inside job. If it's an inside job, then it would look like Kent State. I'm not saying ISI is involved. If they are, then we would probably have been still in puzzle. By pulling a stunt like this, Taleban is just showing the world community how incompetent they are, under the assumption that they did pull it out.

Nope, none of the above make any sense. The only thing I can see is that the incident is intended to be set up to fail, and the suspects were intended to be caught.

AQ is scraping the bottom of the barrel for personnel.  The same thing happened to the right wing and racist terrorist movements in the US.  After relentless hounding and massive agent provocateur stuff, they basically realized they could not do anything and resorted to encouraging losers to do something.  This moron did his best and he represents the cream of the terrorist crop since the Mumbai thing.  If we had any guts we would put up propaganda posters with Ipads and Boeing-787's on one side and this jackass and his wannabe bomb on the other.

The US is not in shortage of guts. Defying God and blasphemy require more guts then blowing oneself up in belief of rewards in after life. You know, about the people in Western media, they are not cowards. They just have serious mentally disorder.

And, AQ is now in better shape than it was during 2007-2008. They practically disengaged from Iraq and Afghanistan already, and they have Iran at their back. If they take over Somalia, then we will have real trouble again very soon.

Yellichink,

This is not true. AQ isn't even a shadow of what it was back then. AQ prime is for all intents and purposes contained. AQ Franchise lives but is operationally ineffective. This doesn't mean we wont see the occasional terror attack even here on US soil however. But the likelihood of large scale complex attacks circa 9/11 or African Embassy bombings is very much reduced. Again, I'M NOT SAYING IT CAN'T/WON'T HAPPEN so please no one interpret it that way.

Also, Iran is not backing AQ. Two different objectives.
