That's an intresting idea. Canada won't be a superpower this century but if we can keep our land we have enough resources to be a superpower. I belive the cause of Canada's slow growth is becuase of our political instablility, Quebec. It also might have something to do with our lifestyle leading to poor population growth. Will Canada be a super power? I won't be around to find out

It isen't a matter of any lack in natural resources (Canada possesses some of the world's largest mineral resources and has more oil in the sands of Alberta than the whole of Saudi Arabia), but suffers from a small population and a political unwillingness to expand the military. If these can be corrected, then we certainly have what it takes to grow strong. If Canada wanted to, we could have a nuclear missile ready in just a few months. We have large uranium mines, many nuclear power plants and the means of processing the materials. The point is, we can be. Just not anytime soon, unless you can kick out the weak politicians.

two things rule against it. 1) rather short of people. this is fixable if immigration continues at current pacing. 2) a considerable disinterest in other people's business. to be a superpower you really do need to thrive on being pushy.

We need to do : 1) maintain good for our natual resources; 2) provide good education to overall population; 3) do more infrastructures for mass transportation, that bring people closer; 4) maintain good international relationship; For this 21st century.

It could, eventually. Canada's problem has always been that it does not have the people; without the high population, we don't have the money or the manpower. However, if Canada's population rose sharply, it could of course become a superpower.

Personally though, I believe that eventually Canada and the United States will become united in some form, which would mean that Canada would be a super power, albeit due to being joined with the States.

Canada and the US are joined at the hip in terms of national defense interests, with no desire for the other's land, making them ideal allies. Being American myself, if  the days of the US as a superpower ended, and another country filled the vacuum. The best possible outcome in my opinion would be Canada.

With that said, I do not support a fusing of the US and Canada. We are our own people, and we should leave it that way.

Well Canada has in the past 'punched well above its weight class' and has spent many times the money it currently spends on defence.  It also has in the past been an important international player in foreign affairs; most notably as being an honest broker with no history of imperial expansion, nor a current day interest in being a 'super power'.  Canada could return to being one of the pre-emminent middle powers, but that would take a decade of Conservative majority governnments, which is not in the cards at this stage.  Sadly the Liberal Party has allowed its left wing of the party to degrade the CF to such an extent that it was imploding due to few resources and too many roles under the Chretien Government in particular, but also due to 40-years of neglect and abuse by Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments.  With the current Conservative minority government, there is little hope other than to see a slow and painful recovery in the CF with a small increase in its numbers, better equipment, improved or properly maintained infrastructure, etc.
