Subject: Our Military makes me sad
Greg    4/8/2003 9:22:14 PM
The first thing that comes to my mind is our dangerous Sea King Helecopers. DAMN I HATE CRECHIN! I'm applying to the RMC but I'm worried about how underfunded and jerk around (Afganistan) our military is. I'm also worried about not getting an poon-tang at RMC (not many women)

Our military makes us all sad. We're using outdated German tanks, ships which are under maintenanced and decades old Seakings, most of which are about as durable as a house of cards. Last time I checked, our forces numbered 15,000? Most of our fighters are old Lockheed Starfighters?! Get real! I'm willing to bet that we are the only ultra-modern nation with a military this pitiful. Training pays off in battle, we've seen that in Afghanistan. But not when you're outnumbered against an enemy 1-100!!! I'm ashamed. I really am.

That's the whole point. Our IDIOTIC government believes that because the United States is just next door that THEY can fight all our battles for us. We need our own active military. And please, no more Seakings!!! (Writing a letter to Chretien? Heh.. As if a member of a Canadian government party would take the time to look). We need to adopt a more effective military. Believe it our not, our forces are more thoroughly and better trained than their American counterparts (Not by a great deal), yet that is meaningless if we cannot apply that force to numbers.

Well hopefully Western Canada will just secede and join the US. Yeah I want a land route to Alaska w/o having to deal with canadian gun laws!

Starfighters? They're really still using Starfighters? I had no idea any still existed outside a museum.

As far as I know. Starfighters and F-16s (I was surprised that Chretien would let us play with these toys). Most of our few tanks are Leopard I or II's, although while not bad, are rather outdate (Referring more so to the Leopard I's).

http://www.airforce.forces.ca/equip/equip1_e.htm Still... you guys could do better than that, if you tried. Canada ought to join with the US in aquiring some really long range aircraft- a B-52 replacement. The Buffs are getting old. A new model would be ideal for Canada. 1st, it is very doubtful that Canadian aircraft will ever (in the next generation) be used in a fighter role. The RCAF is going to be a support service, and any combat is going to be ground attack. A long range bomber can be deployed from Canada and still support Canadian troops in the field around the world. We did it with B-2's out of Missouri, hitting Afghanistan. Think about it. A squadron in Newfoundland, another in BC, and you'd have a force that could be used to support anything, anywhere. On the other hand, if a squadron of F-18's is committed to supporting Canadian troops somewhere in the world, it has to go there, and that would pretty much tie down the whole RCAF, just to perform one mission. Give my regards to the Great White North, eh!

FYI, Vulture, when crossing into Canada, and the guard asks "Are you carrying any firearms" the correct response is NOT "Why, do you need some?" Hey Canada, when are we going to see more of the Red Green show? Everything I know about Canada I learned there. It IS all accurate, isn't it?

Yay, Newfoundland! Being a resident of the province though, I can tell the airbases here are not much more than run down, empty warehouses (One in Stephenville, one somewhere around St. John's, I think). Our military has the money to develop it's forces, but for some reason they feel that we should be dependant on America to shield us from anything incoming. Also, sorry for the mixup with the SF's. We use F/A-18's rather than F-16's and the starfighter I mistook for a -140 Aurora, which we have on maritime patrol. Sorry 'bout that.
