Late today the Cdn. government announced the cancellation in their purchase of the F-35 Lightning. Skyrocketing costs have made the progam a much derided one, with even the Auditor General stating that the initial costs were significantly understated and it would appear it has gotten worse since then. The other huge problem with the program was that with the huge price tag the RCAF was only going to be getting 65 F-35A's, which is ludicrous.
The new Chief of Defence Staff, a fighter pilot himself, will now try to get something moving on a new substitute for Canada's aging F-18A Hornets. No doubt the F-18E or F will be looked at more closely. |
