Subject: Amphibious Ops Training in Hawaii
ArtyEngineer    11/10/2008 4:53:50 PM
Just heard that a bunch of Canadian Forces have been down in Hawaii recently at "K" Bay learning all things Amphibious from the USMC. This a regular training evolution or something new?

The Cdn. Navy has been to the islands before, but possibly they are picking up some new joint training.

Talked to "My man in Hawaii" to get details.  Was part of  RIMPAC, first time Canadian Army have participated in years.  Was  a company sttrength element from 1PPCLI, some FAC/FO's from 1RCHA and some engineers.  Apparently they were "Part" of 3rd Marine Regiment for the duration of the exercise (Several weeks).  Lived on board ship and carried out amphibious assaults via AAV's and all sorts of other good combined arms amphibous ops type stuff.

Very interesting!!!!

Very interesting.  The Canadian government had looked at replacing our aging supply ships with vessels called Joint Support Ships, but nothing like the US Navy's Amphib family of ships like the LHA/LHD etc.  Thanks for the update.
