Subject: Cdn. Air Force to Get New Strategic and Tactical Aircraft
Griffin    6/30/2006 12:19:08 AM
Today the MND Gordon O'Connor, along with the Industry, and Public Works Ministers announced the Conservative government's decision to buy 4 new Strategic Lift Tranports and 17 Tactical Lift Transports at a cost of $8.3-billion CDN. The odds on favourites are the C-17III Globemaster for the Strategic role and the C-130J Hercules for the Tactical role, although the C-27J Spartan and other aircraft may get the nod for Arctic duty. This ends a week of announcements whereby the government has declared that $17.1-billion CDN. is to be spent getting new equipment for the CF.

Yup, a move to greater operational mobility.

Thomas, our clapped out fleet of Hercs was in such need of replacement that the majority of the aircraft were grounded as hangar queens being used for parts, or awaiting parts to make them airworthy. I would have wished fewer Hercs though, with greater emphasis on Globemasters, but at this stage anything is welcomed.
