anyone fancy they know where the american dollar is going to settle? it's been dropping for a while and the pace if anything seems to be picking up. the financial "experts" seem to be thinking the canadian dollar will top the us dollar by the end of the year but i don't think it's going to take that long myself.

Well it goes up and down yes maybe at the end of the year it could close above it. I think on the news it was saying it is not only just rising because of the U.S. dollar's depreciation but is rising against other currencies too which I guess is a good thing.

LOL, what I said not long ago? Depend on the situation, if war with Iran started, you'll see a sky-high C$. If the Asia booming continues, C$ will gradually go higher. But if a recession happens for some reasons, and the need for resource decreases, C$ will drop. I bet C$ has 75% chance to go up.

canadian dollars have gained a bit vs the world at large mostly over rising oil and mineral pricing. given how much of our economy is built around exports rising currency values are not a good thing especially not if the change is quick. the us dollar is down from 1.60 to 1 to 1.12 to 1 yesterday. the change is entirely too quick to be good and it's mostly the us dollar dropping like a stone not ours going up.

i see the monthly trade deficit is down to 62 billion dollars. kinda scary when that's considered an improvement though. and just for a giggle look up the brand america poll results that were just released. canada placed 3rd overall of 35 countries rated. we would have been first but it seems we lack pyramids or great long walls etc for the tourists to gawp at hehe. the guy behind the poll had some very kind things to say about canada's results in the poll. said our ratings were so positive for instance they checked to see if the results had been loaded somehow.

oh yeah forgot to mention that when 23000 people were asked which of the 35 nationalities rated in this poll would make the best "new best friend" canadians were head and shoulders the favs. it's nice to be loved isn't it ;)

One thing is good in C$ rising: pay down the federal debt. Most of the debt is owned by Wall Street so measured in US dollar. 10 years ago I read an article about C$ value, value increasing is good to pay down the debt but the politicans don't want to do that: less interest for Wall Street loans and offend those investors.
