Subject: Canadians kill another 15-20 Taliban
Griffin    5/1/2006 1:26:08 AM
For the article see: http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2006/04/30/canadian-afghanistan060430.html?ref=rss Supposedly the Taliban also don't like us bringing in US Apache gunships or using our M777 for harrassing fire and for illumination at night. Like the low lifes they are, they likely scurry under some rocks when the light is put on them.

don't be so hard on them griffin. pretty much anyone would scuttle for cover when that happens. saw a cbc report where they mentioned some officers in the national afghan police are unhappy that the canadians let the afghans take the lead in doing building searches etc. i would have thought that would be considered tactful/efficient to have locals doing the searches. less chance of cultural mores being offended and the locals are certainly going to have a better sense when something is hinky.

Picked this up on Yahoo. Good work killing those "militants". By NOOR KHAN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 27 minutes ago KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Canadian and Afghan forces killed as many as 27 militants and captured three in fighting throughout Afghanistan over the weekend, and Afghan army sergeant also was killed, officials said Monday.

Having done tactical entry training, I can attest to the fact it can get the pucker factor working. Even more so for the Afghan police who are very poorly trained, and equipped. However, having the Afghan's doing the searches gives them not only experience, but more importantly, it helps them ascert themselves in their new roles. I would also note that in a patrol into the badlands our guys had an Afghan Police group to lead them about and help interview people. After some KM into the journey they tried to force our people to pay them for the work. We declined and they left. There are a LOT of problems with the Afghan Police and Army that takes sorting out. They need to be better trained and equipped for sure, but I also wonder if they are being paid at all, or if the pay is paltry hence the usual 3rd world country corruption being the only way they survive by hitting people up for supplementary money. Lots of problems with them, so I tend to go by our guys first and then put their statements under scrutiny. Hopefully in time things will improve for the Afghans in terms of wages, training, and equipment, but for now we back home have to understand the true nature of things out there and not put a North American standard on something so far removed from our norms.
