A few French folks have asked, "Why do Americans hate us so much when Canadians have the same attitudes we do"?
Here's part of the reason why: The other day, I received a tourist brochure in the mail from New Brunswick. The "gist" of the brochure, summed up, is as follows: "New Brunswick is a very pretty place, with beautiful sea shores, friendly people, and tasty lobster, so if you come to visit, you will like it."
Meanwhile, France would also like me to visit and spend money. What do they do? They hire Woody Allen- America's Whiniest Person. Woody Allen's commercial for France, again, to present the gist, is: "If you don't want to visit France it's because you are an ignorant person".
Contrast:
Canada: We're really nice, come visit.
France: If you don't visit, it's because you're ignorant.
Okay, folks, NOW does everyone understand why Americans are so much harder on France than Canada? Is it clear now? |
