"Ehran:it seems the canadians have launched a several week show the flag exercise into injun country down near the pak border. guess they are trying to establish the fact that they won't be restricted by casualties."
I started a new topic so as to not have thread drift in the other item. I believe there are now over 1,000 troops spreading out to put pressure on the Taliban and win over the 'hearts and minds' of the Afghan locals. No small job, as no doubt the people will fear that once the troops are gone the Taliban will re-emerge and punish those who helped the Canadian troops. Same old terrorist stuff. However, one has to start somewhere, and breaking down mistrust by doing some good PRT work should help. The problem with the country right now is the corruption and lack of a truly functional justice system that would stop Taliban and al-Qaeda types from bribing officials and getting out of jail if arrested by our troops. The other problem of course is the poppy situation and with warlords and drug traffickers and their supporters in the Afghan Parliament, this is going to be a very difficult problem to overcome. |
