Why am I reading that there are better radars than AEGIS?

Because AEGIS isn't a radar.

AEGIS is the combat system.  The radar is the AN/SPY-1.
 
There are at least 5 versions of the AN/SPY-1 used with the AEGIS, and 2 with other systems, so you need to know which model they are compairing the 'better' radar to.
