Subject: What is the use of LCS?
YelliChink    7/13/2007 9:44:43 PM
The LCS mentioned here is not the new Littoral Combat Ship, but the old WW2 Landing Craft Support ships. I tried to find some info about those ships, but couldn't find how these ships were used during amphibious assault. If you know how those ships are supposedly to function, please contribute your knowledge!

Same hull as a Landing Craft Infantry.  Able to get close to beach.  Armed with more guns and lots of rocket launchers.  Designed to support landings by suppressive fire on defenders in the interval after heavy naval fire was lifting as Marines hit the beach.
