Subject: USS Carronade

I was perusing a late 60s copy of Jane's Fighting ships and came across the listing for a USS Carronade LFR-1. I had read about it in a comic book many years earlier. In the entry in Jane's it appeared to have been built in response to the Korean War, commissioned in about 1955, retired to reserve in 1960 and then reactivated in about 1965. From the web I found out that it served in Vietnam. However, I couldn't find any reference as to how effective it was. Does anyone know how useful it was?

gmgsn...do you have any knowledge which fire support comm. networks were used to control the fires of the  Carronade.  I'm assuming the NGF channel was standard, but were the artillery channels monitored or used for calls for fire?   Or fir fire coordination?

What areas did you operate in & which major units did you support?

Do you have any knowledge of the New Jerseys role in fire support in those same years?

I was perusing info on the USS Carronade IFS-1. I ran across this old topic. Just in case anyone is interested I served on this ship from 1966 to 1968.
