Subject: ROKN Patrol Corvette sucken by DPRK torpedo boat
YelliChink    3/26/2010 12:10:07 PM
Just happened 2150 Korean local time. Chinese reports say that it was DPRK torpedo boat. The ROKN corvette sunk is probably a 1200t PCC. I can't read Korean so I am not sure which one exactly. At this moment, 59 out of 104 crew have been saved so far. Best wishes to the still missing ones and condolence to families of lost sailors.

Just what kind of radars do those Po Hongs carry? Need to look at that.

These ship have a multi- role capability with all the weapons and sensors for attack, ASW and self defense mission. The Pohang class ships are divided between the ASUW type and ASW type, which aere distinguished according to guns, and ASW or SSM capability. The first four of the Po Hang class are fitted Exocet and the remainder have the improved Harpoon combat data system. The ASUW type consists of 4 ships (756-759), which have 2 Exocet SSM, 1 OTO Melara 76mm gun, 2 Emerson 30mm AA guns but no ASW capability including sonar and torpedo. The ASW type consist of 20 ships (761-785), which have 2 OTO Melara 76mm guns, 2 Breda 40mm guns, sonar(PHS-32), 6 torpedos, 12 depth charges but no SSM. The last 2 ships, ROKS Sinsung (PCC-783) and ROKS Kongju (PCC-785), have improved electronic equipments for reinforced AAW capability.

Hmmm. Marconi ST 1802 radar, That indicates to me that they should easily know the difference between a flock of birds and a semi-submerged object's radar amidst wave clutter. That someone put out that c and b story is rather enlightening. At those ranges if they just stepped up their radiating power, then the "birds" should have "jumped" around a bit. Not so a boat.

The Titanic has nothing to do with what occurred in Korea. You really have no clue what you are talking about.

Depends on what you mean by "joke".I suppose he implies that the Cheonan ran aground and broke up. He's never seen what happens to a ship that grounds, so he doesn't know any better.

That's a big assumption from you considering you have no idea why I posted that. Again, another mistake by you. If you had any clue about what was going on here you would know why this came up, where it was discussed in relation to this event and why it's being discussed. But you don't. I doubt very many do. But then again, jumping to conclusions, disputing with subject matter experts and acting like a prick is par for the course in present company. Continue your speculation...

I am assuming you think the Chonan took on water which lifted either the stern or bow out of the water and the ship snapped in half.

Oh, and don't blame me for your mystical ways and assuming we are to automatically know what you are implying with vague references to previous ship sinkings that have nothing to do with what happened in Korea. But, by all means go ahead and enlighten us instead of making us guess.

Hamilcar    He says that the ship broke in two on a rock.   4/1/2010 10:55:33 AM
What he doesn't understand is that Titannic broke up deep about 500 meters down and that her hull was made of inferior brittle steel and that the moment arcs and leverage forces involved were of about 30 orders of magnitude over what you can expect  the Cheonan would have experienced as shallow as she was, and that the Titannic took those forces for more than NINETY MINUTES, while Cheonan broke apart after an explosion..

That definitely means he doesn't know what he is talking about.
