Subject: ROKN Patrol Corvette sucken by DPRK torpedo boat
YelliChink    3/26/2010 12:10:07 PM
Just happened 2150 Korean local time. Chinese reports say that it was DPRK torpedo boat. The ROKN corvette sunk is probably a 1200t PCC. I can't read Korean so I am not sure which one exactly. At this moment, 59 out of 104 crew have been saved so far. Best wishes to the still missing ones and condolence to families of lost sailors.

What provoked this? This is the last thing we need in NE Asia right now.

Imagine yourself as Kim the Fat and Ugly, the question would be "Why not provoke those pussy civilian leaders of ROK and their master?"

If this happened in anything other than within 12miles of North Korean coastline, or some other sort of circumstances that are clear-cut in showing the South was entirely in the wrong and the North was entirely in self-defense only mode, then the ROKAF and ROKN ought to be already launching their initial strikes against every NorK ship within 100miles and against any NorK facilities necessary to provide cover for the attacks.  Anything less would be shameful.  If it meant war, then war it should be.  Fight's on!

THAT is still a UN command in a technical state of war with the DPRK and CHINA halted by a truce agreement..

Lets see what the ROKs determine first before we (the US) have to mobilize.

I didn't say "we," I said the South Koreans.  Obviously if it wasn't a North Korean attack then that's a completely different story.  If it was, then South Korea should consider it an act of (resumed) war, and go off on the NorKs.  It doesn't matter who else was formerly involved, if the Chinese and the US don't want to join in they don't have to.

When did ROK ever start hostility like that? Needless to say, it is calculated move by Kim the Fat and Ugly. Somehow Chinese new sources can get report faster than English based one on this incident. It is a clear signal that DPRK planned this for quite a while and commies know about this.
Will ROK do anything about it? Probably not. South Koreans today aren't the tough bunch like Jews. Retaliation means shelling of Seoul, which would cost gravely to ROK. Myopic policy is usually prefered in any democracy, so LMB will condemn verbly, but most likely take no substantial action to punish the North. So Kim the Fat and Ugly can pretty much get away with it.

The response from the USG is surprisingly slow. So, you'd better expect no action from this administration, since they can't tell the difference between a patrol boat from a corvette (and it's implication under international laws). DPRK tried this approach twice during BJC, only once during GWB, and already twice so far under BHO. Apparently, DA and his commander-in-chief have different perception of reality such that they think it is best to continue GWB policy on North Korea by rejecting every GWB's approach to DPRK.

Of course it is an act of war. However, nothing will be done because no one has the resolve, nor the courage, nor the foresight, to see what's coming next. Embodened, Kim the Fat and Ugly may try something more outrageous before he finally goes to hell. But, hey, sometimes we all make gamble on life choices, right?

Well, here's an alert that Stratfor just sent out.

Red Alert Update II: Keeping an Eye on the Peninsula

March 26, 2010

A South Korean presidential spokesman said North Korea did not cause the sinking of the South Korean vessel Cho An. Even though lack of subsequent military conflict shows that the incident has now become a political event, the maritime boundary of the Korean Peninsula should be watched closely in the coming days to see how the incident fits within Pyongyang?s attempts to hold its own as it approaches the resumption of international negotiations and an important leadership transition.

I think we need to wait and see what the South Koreans determinbe first.

They've sent in clearance divers and that will certainly establish whether the ship was attacked.

Someone or something tells me that, even after the hull is salvaged and the workers found the fragments of a torpedo with some markings in Chosun character, they still don't know what hit them.

It would be kind of funny to see how ROKN captains admit that they were engaging a flock of birds for 10 minutes.

Maybe it was a undetonated mine dropped by Americans during Inchon invasion. If that were the case, then no doubt LMB can make it a big deal to Obama.
