It seems the indians finally realize what china is doing in tibet (building uo road, rail and air infratructure). According to this report the indians have put in place a project to build a 7000 km road network along the LAC to counter china's moves.

are major roads privately built?  if so, then make sure you don't use the company that built the "new" highway between Pune and Mumbai... They should have arrested the construction managers.

Agree with Nan on water issues.  Protect them at all costs as fresh water will be the future currency - far more than oil

Investors are allowed to invest in toll roads and get a portion of the profits after operating costs and local boss hand dipping, but even if a road was "privately owned", who is going to tell the PLA they need permission, cops turn the other way when cars with PLA plates run red lights and drive on the sidewalk.  There was an incident about 3 years ago in Shanghai at the main Paulaner Brauhaus where a PLA general got drunk and was chucking various objects from peanuts to dishes at foreign patrons.  Tempers were flaring but the general had security and the power of the PLA, the manager publicly asked the general to  leave.  He came back the next day sober, angry and with even more muscle and in full view of the sunday brunch crowd made the entire Paulaner managment team (including the Taiwanese holding company that owns the Paulaner license in China) to make a formal apology.

The Qinghai-Tibet Highway is mostly complete but has a few really rough areas in high altitude, heavy precip areas.  And don't forget, there are PLA troops in Kashmir, ready to create a diversion.
