Subject: ASTER 30 more efficient than Arrow, patriot?
nominoe    6/19/2007 10:26:06 AM
in french, sorry : h*tp://www.israelvalley.com/news/2007/03/02/9027/israel-france-revelations-le-nouveau-missile-anti-missile-francais-aster-30-serait-plus-performant-que-l-arrow this article says that ASTER 30 could be used by Israel to face missile threats, and that it has many advantages : - compact, so better mobility - can be used with ARABEL radar, 360° vs 120° for other systems - vertical launch - thrust vect. up to 50G. I Don't really know what are the real facts, but could ASTER 30 be a good system for israel?

Softwar :

""BW
Can you post some details on Aster 30 and TBM intercept tests?

 Thanks in advance!""

Well , there is nothing I have that you cannot find on the Net .

You could start with the official website :

h*tp://www.mbda-systems.com/mbda/site/FO/scripts/siteFO_contenu.php?lang=EN&noeu_id=88

The problem is that some posters will try to counter every word I say
just for the sake of it , Herald being a very good exemple .

I sincerly believe that ASTER SAM/T is the best system out there , not
because I am French but because the technology involved is still
unmatched .

Arrow looks the business too , but I don 't know much about that system .

Patriot , well , it 's half baked .

SM-3 is a strong and very good contender .

Israel wants something to counter any possible BM threat from Iran . They might well have a problem , with or without ASTER .

They need a hit-to-kill
capability to make sure that the warhead gets destroyed ~ASTER can do
that~ but if it is a biological warhead it wouldn 't help . It could
even make things worse as the destroyed warhead ~even in high altitude~
will spread its poison all over the place .

It is a big problem ...

Cheers .

US Patriot missiles including PAC 3 have actually HTK ballistic targets outside the troposphere under battlefield conditions.
ASTER in any of its iterations? ZIP. Not even in TESTS.

On internet?
A lot of things are lacking on internet!
You simply can not check this kind of information.

Would just like to point out that if it were not for UK insistence then the mission envelop of Aster family of weapons would not be as capable as it currently is! If my history is correct then during the Horizon debacle (down to the french) France and Italy were happy with a much less capable missile and settled for a much less capable radar system! Yes Sampson is better than EMPAR! But hey this is all about politics and not about each government providing their armed forces with the best equipment possible!
