Subject: China's new 4th generation air superiority fighter Revealed
heartdear    12/27/2010 9:29:49 AM
I am surprised to see that this news is not mentioned or discussed in this forum. http://bbs.tiexue.net/post_4743337_1.html it looks like a super-sized F22&F35 hybrid, and it's definitely not the first prototype.

Yup, seen that during the weekend. I have yet heard anythign about newer Chinese military turbofan other than WS-13A, so the said "J-20" may well be installed with WS-13A at the moment. From what I've heard currently, J-20 is joint project between Xian and Chengdu. The wing shape is still unknown, but it has canard wings and V-tail.

It certainly will have less RCS than J-11/Su-27. To get to the level of F-22, some other tricks are needed.

BTW, now it looks that the gutting of F-22 program is imbecilic, isn't it?

Its hard to be sure, but that looks more like Sukhoi more than LovkMart tech-theft.

If true then they are doing a very bad job of copycat. Not arguing that they are doing tech theft for sure, but if any, it's not in aerodynamics and mobility. The basic shape stealth design is different from Lockeed or Sukhoi. They went ahead with canard and I doubt how they can achieve with what everybody else avoids.

That is not a carbon copy, but the engineering choices there are definitely Sukhoi inspired not Boeing or Lockmart.

On the one hand, it is probably a half-assed copy cobbled together from piecemeal intel.

On the other hand, ALL of our military contractors have operations in China, solely for civilian purposes of course!

Not to mention Boeing being allowed to outsource the rudder of the 787 to a Xian aircraft company.

But there is NO WAY China could copy our tech, just as the supercomputer industry.

China has actually already "copied" some American tech.  They used the CFM56 engine core found on Boieng jumbo jets (which has the same core as the GE F110 engine found in F-15's and 16's)  as the basis for their WS-10 engine (which they are now putting in their J-11B's and possibly J-10B's).
