They probably got it from Pakistan. I've checked ROCAF record and found none has flown to PRC in renegade incidents.

You could well be right. On another forum some chinese boasted with China new figther.
I pointed out that the intake precluded any significant bypass ratio.
I was kind: I said it would probably be a fighter with F-4 performance.

No, it's trying to perfect an engine that will give it small-to-moderate numbers of 4th generation F-16 and F-15 equivalents in their J-10 and J-11.
