Subject: NGI, you guys still have Wiesels?

I remember them! in the early 80's, they were tested at Ft. Lewis, Washington as part of the US Army's attempts find a good "light" armored vehicle, along with the Brit Scorpion, a wheeled Canadian thing, and the Commando V-??? (I forget which model. We also had something just like it by another company called the Dragoon, and the durn things were so identical it was annoying. The result was the Army didn't like ANY of them, but I digress) I really like the Wiesel! It was, well, Cute! I had an old Chevy Vega at the time that was actually bigger and LOUDER than the Wiesel. The Wiesel is so small that a Marder (Have you still got them?) could carry one as a "spare" in case the Marder breaks down. Small? Did I say a Wiesel was small? It was the only armored vehicle I ever saw with CAUTION- TWO MAN LIFT stencilled on the bumper. How do you get a Wiesel across an obstacle? Get out of the Wiesel, pick it up, and carry it across. They were so much fun!

If you've ever seen the movie "A Bridge Too Far", I think at least one was used in the scene where the Germans were first trying to storm the bridge with armored vehicles. It may have been dressed up like a Marder (the WWII one), but if you look at the suspension, it sure looks like the Wiesel.
