Wikipedia has recorded 6 crashes in 2012 alone: 20 January 2012 An L-39 crashed near a regional airport at Rainbow City, Alabama, killing pilot Tom Coble. He was a Liberty University trustee. The cause had not been determined as of 23 January. 08 April 2012 one BANGLADESH AIR FORCE advance jet trainer L-39 has crashed due to engine failure. One trainee pilot died and the instructor (sqd ldr) was injured. 18 May 2012 A US Based L-39 crashed shortly after takeoff from Boulder City Airport, Nevada. The pilot and one passenger were killed. The FAA and the NTSB are investigating. This is posted a few hours after the crash. 30 June 2012 A civil L-39C (ZU-HIT) crashed at the Klerksdorp Airport (KXE) while executing an aerial maneuver during the Klerksdorp air show. The aircraft burst into flames on impact. The pilot, Gianfranco Cicogna, was killed. The Investigation is pending. [35][36] [37] 1 September 2012 An accident involving an Aero Vodochody L-39C (tail number N139GS) occurred in the early afternoon at the annual Quad City Air Show near Davenport, Iowa. The pilot died when his aircraft crashed into an open field. No other people were injured as a result of the crash.[38][39] 15 september 2012 An L-39 of the Breitling team crashed near the Dutch village of Valkenswaard in a rural area. The two pilots were able to escape from the plane before touchdown. The L-39 stayed in one piece and did not catch fire. It is unknown what caused the crash. An investigation is pending.
