Subject: 6*F-22 vs 6*Typhoon vs 6*Rafale in the UAE?!
giblets    11/16/2009 4:48:58 AM
According to both Flight Global, and Defence News, other than attending the Dubai airshow, the USAF, RAF, and FAF each sent 6 of their finest fighter aircraft to the desert Kingdom to take part in multinational exercises. Other than adding much fuel to the fire for forum members here! It raises many questions (such as why the USAF was unable to send 1 F-22 to Paris, and can now send 6 to the UAE, despite no drop in operational tempo). And will the F22 and Typhoon not be in the air at the same time again?

Pretty well removes any question about whether or not he is a troll...

Yeah... exactly why I was leery of posting those pics here. Someone would have found the way to warp it onto Yet Another Useless Debate. Although, well, that's just BP.
Me, I think we should just sit back and enjoy the pretty pics as aviation enthusiasts without, for once, trying to put too much meaning into them. I mean, it's just a picture, except it was taken with the OSF instead of some pilot's Canon or Nikon.

Rafale lock-on the F-22 only using it's tv-channel+lrf during guns only fight.

I guess it is possible to get a weapons lock on the F-22 after all....
nice pics, but it just shows more of your nonsense,
the TV cant lock weapons, or if as you said it was during the guns only fights
there would of been 2 kills for the rafale and we all know it was naught for the rafale

Pot, kettle...
Actually the TV can lock weapons, namely IR missiles. But it's a moot point in that case, since it was guns-only dogfight indeed, what Hamilcar calls "snowballing" (which sums up the exercise pretty well !) I suppose. And the Rafale's gun isn't mounted on a swivel turret :-)

this has been gone through a few times, all you need to do is to put up a link that shows the tv has weapon control

Oh no your little "put up a link" game isn't gonna work with me, I've watched you doing that routine over at Keypub enough. I won't allow myself to get dragged into that blackhole.

The FSO contributes to air situation awareness and reinforces the Rafale's capabilities to operate in severe environments.
Lasers for measuring target distance give the sensor high-precision 3D localisation capabilities.
Its near-visible waveband capability is especially valuable with its narrow field for identifying possible targets in situations where visual contact is required by the Rules of Engagement or during quick reaction alerts.

now i knew the tv didnt, but it seems i was wrong about the laser too, i actually gave the rafale the benefit of the doubt and assumed the laser was as well as a distance, gave a targeting solution for short range guns and IRmica, this was obviously misplaced and it seems both needs to be handed off to the radar
no wonder there wasnt a second order for the osf, just the one for ~40 units in ~1992 of 80's technology
lets hope the upgrades do better when they happen and intergrate into the targeting computers for guns and IRmica

i'll try that copy paste again

Front-Sector Optronics

Thales?s Front-Sector Optronics (FSO) system is fully integrated into the Rafale to provide covert longrange detection and identification, high-resolution angular tracking and laser range-finding for air, sea and ground targets.
Operating in optical wavelengths, this sensor is immune to radar jamming.

What are you talking about jackjack? The LRF provides range, that's actually its purpose!

And BP (fs/bw) said he wasn't going to post here any more.... just a few days ago in fact, yet now he's back with more irrelevant photos, with (as usual) unknown content and context.

Why doesn't it surprise me that he is still here trolling??

Even if the Rafale was the best dogfighting plane on earth it would still be redundant as an A2A platform, this is because we are now in the
