Subject: Pak army puts Kashmir border before saving lives
Brahma    10/20/2005 8:50:27 AM
Officials linked to Pakistan's army have admitted that some units paid more attention to restoring the country's front-line defences against India after last weekend's earthquake than to rescuing trapped civilians. With thousands of soldiers stationed close to the disputed border in the Kashmir region - 450 of whom were killed by the earthquake - civilians who survived the tremor are increasingly angry at the slow response by the country's military to their plight. Although the President, Pervez Musharraf, apologised on TV for the delay in helping the worst-affected areas, his remarks have done little to deflect the criticism. With the number of dead confirmed at 39,422 and likely to rise, and more than 65,000 injured, civilians are bitterly disappointed with the Government. A resident of Bagh, Ismail Mir, said that when General Musharraf had visited the stricken town he went only to the military garrison, where six soldiers had been killed in the earthquake, and did not tour the civilian areas, where dozens had died. "We tried to reach him but the army officials would not allow us to meet him," Mr Mir said. "The major in charge of security told guards to shoot on sight if we tried to enter the garrison." Advertisement AdvertisementResentment will be further increased by the admission that army units on the "line of control" - the heavily armed border between Indian- and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir - focused on rebuilding their defences rather than helping in nearby villages. "Although the Government knew that India would not attack the country, in the first few days they used every resource to restore its defence line because they never wanted to leave it vulnerable," one military official said. A military spokesman, Major-General Shoukat Sultan, rejected the criticisms, saying: "The people are traumatised and this is all a reaction to the trauma." The former cricketer turned politician Imran Khan has added his voice to the criticism, excoriating the Government for the "miserable failure" of its rescue efforts. "I saw mothers sitting outside the rubble waiting for their children. They had heard the screams of their kids under the rubble for two days, but they could not do anything and were simply helpless. That's a tragedy," Mr Khan said. Torrential rain has again delayed relief efforts. On Saturday, one of the Pakistani military helicopters flying an aid mission crashed near Bagh, killing all six military personnel aboard.

Genesis    Why should Pak army respond to kashmiris?   10/20/2005 9:01:53 AM
I dont understand why the kashmiri's in PoK are angry at the Pakistan army's lathargic response after the quake. Kashmiris are not Pakistanis. So naturally, the pakistan army will cater to affected areas in pakistan and its army posts in PoK first and foremost than anything else. Pak army has no obligation to respond to kashmiris first. What they did as an occupying force was quite normal. So no need to critisise the pak army.Any other country would have done the same.

No they dont. You are just trying to be-little, pakistanians. You are, a tunnel vision Hindustanianese. Pakistanialund with a GNP of 27.9 trillion US dollars, can almost buy any country in the world. Pakistanian scientists invented matha ka diapers. Most of the muslas are diaper-mathas. Pakistanians drive more taxicabs in the US than any stupid Indians who are busy owning and buying crappy companies like SANDISK, QUALCOM, CBOT, IBM, QLOGIC, etc. Indians believe in going to Yale and MIT (these are crappy colleges for loser pal Renegade from a very fine community college agrees with me). Well we Pakistanians love our little madrissieh in Quetta with its intellectual cluster-funk education. Rule Pakistania.(no longer rule Brittania). Kashmir belongs to Pakistanesians just like the 157 million Indian Muslims held hostage in India also belong to Paksitania. I demand, that India sends us our 157 million Muslimites (not termites) immediately. All 157 million of them are dying to come to Pakistan and most will die in the process. According to our Sharia, the process takes precedence over substance all the time. One day we Paksitanins will have a Madrassieh in Princeton and in every Ivy league college exolling the virtues of wife beating and women's rights in the same sentence and breath! So what has all this got to do with Kashmir? I hope not, another EARTHQUAKE. Me-thinkums, the infidels are getting too much patronage from the True Gods.

See we are already making progress with regard to humor.... ... the Paks in 99th percentile already begin to get a wiff of sarcasm... ... now we just have to dumb it down so that those in 98th percentile (and form the Pak representation on this site) can catch up with their fellow countrymen ;-)
