Subject: time for some fun and games

i've decided to lighten the mood a little here, try some of these questions on for size 1.) if one=3, two=3, three=5, and four=4... what does five + six =??? 2.) take me from there, and i end up here... what am i? 3.) bill and ben go down to the beach to collect sea shells. They take one bag with them. How many shells can they put in the empty bag? 4.) Before Sir Rihard Burton attempted to discover the source of the Nile, which was the world's longest river? 5.) what does a zamboni do during half-time in a game of ice hockey? we'll leave it at that for now

Maybe he (the chief) orders only those with purple eyes to kill themselves, personally, so that nobody else can think he is talking to someone else? Whispers in their ear?

Hmmn, I should have written "any person with purple eyes".

all those related to him have not purple eyes, so do not kill themselves  

 

im impressed that sentence made sense to anyone, not sure what i was thinking when i wrote that.
English is my first language, although its not readily apparent from that sentence

 Well now since nobody knew if their own eyes were purple,and the chief wanted them dead, i would say that the only solution is they killed eachother. And hence nobody commited suicide, but rather murder,or better known as genocide.
    Well they also may have actually talked to their fellow order before they where banned from speech. If i did not know my own eye color i would have asked my tribe long before the chief gave the order.

They didn't kill each other. Those with purple eyes committed suicide. They did not know if they had purple eyes until after the vow of silence was taken.

They didn't kill each other. Those with purple eyes committed suicide. They did not know if they had purple eyes until after the vow of silence was taken.


Ok, the chief knew he did not have purple eyes,but the chief knew what purple eyes were. So then the only solution is that the chief simply pointed his finger at those with purple eyes and they commited suicide,and the chief carried out his own Final Solution to his purple eyed problem.
  Or if those with purple eyes did not know their own eyes were purple, but knew what purple is ,they could have pointed to those  fellow tribesmen with purple eyes,and then each in turn commited suicide.

That's no way to run a society.
 
Without proper communication, how then do this archipelagons warn each other of impending disaster,
or warn of diminshing food reserves,
or maintain justice?
(can't report criminal activity, now can we, what with this vow of silence!)
