Subject: fundamentalist nutters-Apocalyptic beliefs...
StudentofConflict    7/26/2007 6:04:57 AM
So, I'm not talking about the 'Allahu Akbar' ones, but the Praise Jesus ones. I've always thought that the UK and USA were very close culturally, and had more in common with one another than with continental europe for example. But when you read and hear what some of these looneytunes god-botherers believe, its a bit scary to think you're allied with people who actually take the bible as being literally real. I saw in another thread that one dude 'as a christian' believed the world was only 4000 years old!!In the 21st century!! What scares me is that these people are going to fill more and more government and military positions, and then get it into their heads that its the Rapture or a countries been taken over by the antichrist or something and then cause armageddon...what do others think? I mean how prevalent are ultra-fanatical christian beliefs in the US? How many problems can it cause?

I don't know? But, as a christian... i do have one finger on the nuke button as i am typing this!  This would be a hilarious thread if you weren't so adamantly serious about it!

"How many problems can it cause?"

About as much of a problem as you were otherwise unknowledgeable about, in which your claiming. IOW... None, nada, zilch...! Unless of course, we want to start scaring each other silly by comparing the nutcases within our respective countries? I beleive that can be arranged, though we probably wouldn't sleep so well at night after such an informational exchange.

Dear British Friends,

I've worked with fundamentalist Christians and there are a couple of things I can assure you of.

First, their beliefs are definitely not contagious.
Second, except for absurd Hollywood depictions, they are non-violent, and tend to have a live and let live view, at least in this world which for me is the only one I'm concerned with.

One question. Since you have a homegrown fifth column of religious fanatics planting bombs, smashing flaming trucks into airports, and flying into a rage at the sight of a ham sandwich or a Piggy Bank, why the hell are you so concerned with some guy in Alabama who thinks the earth is 4,000 years old?

I guess i should have been alot slower in replying too this thread, seeing that i don't subscribe to any fundamentalist viewpoint what-so-ever!
Question? I don't know how many other openly christian posters are here on this board, but have i ever given anyone reason too fear me or my views in anyway?

I know... curiousity killed the cat. I may yet regret asking that question!
